Rector of the University of Blida 2 receive the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Algeria
Professor Farid Kourtel, Rector of the University of Blida 2 Lounici Ali, received today the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Algeria, Mr. James Downer, in a working visit aimed at exploring opportunities for academic and research cooperation between Algerian and British institutions.
The meeting took place in the presence of the university’s vice-rectors, deans of faculties, and the Secretary-General of the university, in an atmosphere characterized by openness and a mutual desire to build solid bridges of cooperation. The discussions focused on strengthening partnership with prestigious British academic institutions on multiple levels, within the framework of the university’s strategy to connect with the external environment, particularly at the international level.
In his remarks, Professor Kourtel highlighted the existing agreements with prestigious British academic institutions, particularly the University of Cambridge and King’s College London, noting that this cooperation resulted in a visit by a delegation from the University of Cambridge to the University of Blida 2, within the framework of the first edition of the training week on African Literature last April, which left a positive impression on the British side. The Rector emphasized that the institution seeks to go beyond mere traditional academic exchange, toward building long-term strategic partnerships based on joint research cooperation and attracting research grants for outstanding students, which will contribute in the future to addressing the supervision shortage, developing research projects in literary, historical, and economic disciplines, as well as exchanging expertise in the fields of scientific publishing and sending professors on training missions to acquire linguistic and specialized skills.
For his part, British Ambassador James Downer expressed his interest in the academic and research level achieved by the University of Blida 2, affirming that « the United Kingdom attaches great importance to developing academic relations, » adding that « this visit reflects his country’s commitment to supporting scientific and research cooperation, and the aspiration for more student and research exchanges that would enhance scientific and cultural ties alike. »
