National conference today on « Man and the Badia in the Central Maghreb: The Medieval and Early Modern Periods »

The University of Blida 2 Lounici Ali hosted a national conference today on « Man and the Badia in the Central Maghreb: The Medieval and Early Modern Periods, » organized by the Department of History and Library Science. Remote participation was available via Google Meet.

Opening the proceedings, University Rector Professor Bachir Ameur described the badia as a root of authenticity, values and identity, and a guardian of Algerians’ collective memory. He linked the event to the anniversary of the November 1, 1954 Revolution, which he said emerged from the countryside, mountains and badia, making a return to Bedouin history a tribute to the wellspring of steadfastness behind independence.

Vice Dean Dr. Djamel Daoud stressed the role of rigorous historical study in building national awareness, noting that research on the badia fills a long-standing gap in academic scholarship. Department Head Dr. Zahia Hadj Mohamed said the conference aims to encourage local history research and highlight the Bedouin contribution to the region’s economic, social and cultural life. Conference Chair Dr. Fatiha Kadhi explained that most studies have focused on cities, and called for restoring the badia as a civilizational actor and partner in shaping life in the Central Maghreb.
