University of Blida 2 opens a national debate on colonial studies within a specialized scientific forum
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Blida 2 University organized the First National Conference on “Colonial Studies of Algerian Society: Critical Approaches,” bringing together academics and specialized researchers.
Opening the event, Vice-Rector for Pedagogy Professor Said Boukhaouch stressed the importance of restoring the critical role of Algerian universities in deconstructing the colonial intellectual legacy and supporting national scientific research.
Dean of the Faculty Professor Redouane Zemmouchi highlighted that critical colonial studies have become an academic necessity driven by the demands of epistemic sovereignty and the revision of existing methodologies.
Conference Chair Dr. Abdelmadjid Kacemi El Hassani noted that colonial legacy extends beyond material dimensions to influence concepts and scientific methods, describing its examination as an epistemological challenge.
The conference featured sessions in sociology, anthropology, history, cultural criticism, and literary studies, aiming to reassess colonial epistemic influences and promote locally grounded social and human sciences.
